Skyline hoops assistant Dustin Cooper headed to Mesquite

According to sources, Mesquite High's next boys basketball coach will be current Skyline varsity assistant Dustin Cooper.

Cooper is expected to be approved as coach at the Gilbert District Governing Board's next meeting, which is  Tuesday night  (May 15). Cooper would succeed John Burns, who resigned last month after two seasons to take the same position at Basha High.

Cooper has been in Arizona since 2005 when he left Iowa to join Skyline's teaching (English) and coaching staff.  Copper served as an assistant at Sioux City East HS, his alma mater,  prior to moving  to Arizona. He ihas been the junior varsity coach at Skyline as well as Skyline coach Michael Wirth's top assistant.
