Baboquivari 45, Immaculate Heart 37

Blossom Gonzales scored 18 points and Raquel Juan had 13. For Immaculate Heart, Emily Haynes had 13, Grace Aroz had 10 and Laura Aroz had 8.

 

NOTES

Baboquivari assistant coach Gary Manuel coached the boy's team to over 300 victories.

Immaculate Heart lost to Baboquivari 55-27 in November.

Immaculate Heart standout Amity Brown has a right ankle injury and was only available for the opening tipoff.

Baboquivari recognized Gary Manuel at the half.

Immaculate Heart recognized Barbara and Kelly Copeland, co-founders of the Fatima Women's Center.

 

Tucson 60, Cienega 53

Alize McCormick finished with 20 points, Alexis Cortez had 16 and Andreena Chavez had 14. For Cienega, Nalin Martinez had 12, Sabrina Hartzell had 11 and Savannah Shawler had 9.

 

NOTES

Alexis Cortez tied former Corona del Sol (1990-1994) and Cal standout Marie Folsom with 2,270 career points. They are both tied for 9th in Arizona history.

Cienega has only lost three games in two years.

Tucson recognized Badger Foundation board member Kate Donovan at halftime.

Cienega recognized security monitor Francine Prewitt.

 

Ironwood Ridge 50, Marana 39

Natalie Bartle had 20 points, Tessa McCall had 14 and Lexy Ram had 8. For Marana, Baylee Slaughter had 12 points, Alyssa Perez had 11 and Mele Hala'ufia had 9.

 

NOTES
Marana was the last team to beat Ironwood Ridge in a regular season game (Jan. 16, 2015).

Lexy Ram has 1,064 career points.

Natalie Bartle has 562 points and she is still in her sophomore season.

Marana has four players over 6-foot on the roster.

Ironwood Ridge recognized custodial staff member Rosie Slack at the half.

Marana recognized former coach Marty Honea.

 

 

BOYS RESULTS

 

The Gregory School 63, Baboquivari 56

Nick Rosquist finished with 23 points, Addison Mort had 19 and Sebastian Quintana had 8. For Baboquivari, Weylin Hendricks had 18, Trajan Young had 7 as did Jacob Young.

 

NOTES

Dr. Michelle Berry coaches both the boy's and the girl's teams at The Gregory School.

This was the only game of the day to feature two teams ranked in the top ten (D-V).

TGS senior Daniel Rosenberg was recognized at halftime.

Former boy's coach and current girl's assistant Gary Manuel was recognized by Baboquivari.

 

Rincon/UHS 67, Pueblo 54

Brendan Rumel finished with 29 points, Thomas Wabaunsee had 11 and Estevan Sandoval had 9. For Pueblo, Robert Taylor had 19, Isaiah Attles had 18 and Cedric Cotton had 11.

 

NOTES

This was a "Freedom" game between D-II Rincon and D-III Pueblo.

Isaiah Attles is the grandson of Golden State Warriors standout AL Attles. He is also the nephew of former University of Arizona tight end Glenn Howell.

Pueblo is coached by former Arizona football and basketball standout Kelvin Eafon.

Brendan Rumel now has 1,302 career points and Thomas Wabaunsee has 844.

Rincon's MLK honoree was UHS student recruiter Carmen Hernandez at halftime.

Pueblo recognized former Arizona and NFL standout LaMonte Hunley.

 

Sunnyside 61, Canyon del Oro 30

Jacob Inclan finished with 25, Cesar Ozuna had 14 and Mikey Silva had 8. For CDO, Kevin Caldwell had 7 and Cole Boyd had 6.

 

NOTES

Jacob Inclan now has 1,572 career points and Cesar Ozuna has 772.

Sunnyside plays in D-II, Section I which means they will not have a sectional tournament.

Sunnyside recognized Academic Interventionist and track coach Marco Rodriguez at halftime.

CDO recognized Amphitheater District equipment coordinator David Martinez.

 

Palo Verde 58, Flowing Wells 56

Eric Kelley had 17 points, Solomon Fernander had 14 and Shawn Haney had 10. For Flowing Wells, Jordan Behrend had 14 points as did Martio Harris.

 

NOTES

The game had insane runs as Palo Verde went on a 26-6 run and then Flowing Wells went on a 22-6 run.

Flowing Wells coach Tio Harris has three sons on the team: Martio, Tomari and Demari.

Solomon Fernander is the younger brother of former Flowing Wells and current Pima basketball standout Shalise Fernander.

Palo Verde recognized soccer assistant coach Deirdre Hartman at the half.

Flowing Wells recognized athletic administrative assistant Tery Williams.
