Sunrise Mountain senior Blake Lorenz shot 9-under (68-66 134) to win the individual title. Catalina Foothills standout Jake Goode (68-67 135) finished one shot back to take second place and there was a tie for third place between Ben Lorenz (69-69 138) of Sunrise Mountain and Tucker Clark (68-70 138) of Arcadia.
I finished in seventh place last year and I tried not to look at the leaderboard this year,” Lorenz said. “I was a little nervous starting out, but I just played my game.”
Likewise, Goode played his usual steady game against some of the same competition he has seen all year.
“I knew what I was up against and I knew I would play well,” Goode explained. “I came into the season confident and it carried me through the year.”

Like Lorenz, Chaparral standout Kelly Su survived a close call to pull out her second championship in a row. The Northwestern commit was tied with Salpointe standout Alexandra Quihuis down the stretch but finished 2-under (68-74 142) to win by one shot. Quihuis finished 1-under (67-76 143) to take second. Cactus Shadows standout Izzy Cantwell shot 3-over (71-76 147) to take third place.
“My plan was to keep steady and focus on my game,” Quihuis said. “I was a little nervous on my putts, but I competed well.”
Only a junior, Quihuis is now shifting her focus to major tournaments such as the PING Heather FARR IN Phoenix.
Su had no idea one shot separated her from Quihuis until she walked off the 18th green of the Catalina Course.
“I kept my head down and stayed focused on what I had to do,” Su said. “I knew if I played my game in this great venue it would work out in the end.”
Former Canyon del Oro standout Hannah May spent her junior year studying in Brazil and transferred to Arcadia to finish out her senior year. May was away from golf for over nine months but the Southern New Hampshire commit finished in fourth place after recording the best round of the day, an even par 73.
The Division I state tournament will take place next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 30-31) at the OMNI Tucson National.
