D-I State Golf: Ashley Menne, Ben Lorenz & Preston Summerhays lead after first round

The first round of the Division I state golf championship is in the books and we have a close battle with Sunrise Mountain standout Ben Lorenz and Chaparral standout Preston Summerhays all tied up with a 4-under-par 66 on the Sonoran Course of the Omni Tucson National.
Corona del Sol senior Zachary Erskine is one shot back and Brophy junior Zack Missigman is two strokes back. Six golfers came in with a 1-under 69, including Rincon/UHS senior Dallan Graybill.
As a team, Brophy shot an even 280, Chaparral is one stroke back and Hamilton is five shots back.
The girls played on the Catalina Course and two-time state champion Ashley Menne came into the clubhouse with a 3-under 70. Chaparral standout Grace Summerhays shot an even 78 and Xavier standout Breyana Matthews is in third place with 1-over 74. Five golfers are tied at 8-over including Red Mountain’s Belle Balkan.
Xavier leads the team competition with a 10-over 302. Pinnacle is 22-over and Hamilton is 27-over to round out the top three after the first round.
The boys will play on the Catalina Course on Tuesday and the girls will switch over to the Sonoran Course.
