Sahuaro improved to 9-2 on the year thanks to a 56-50 win at Tucson High Thursday night. The victory moved the Cougars one win closer to the quick start (10-2) they experienced last year but the team is hoping to avoid the late-season collapse that saw them missing the playoffs for the first time since 2012.

Buena survived a scare Monday night to improve to 10-0 on the year. Rincon/University (3-9) led 18-13 after the first quarter and only trailed 49-47 with 3:38 left in the game but the Colts pulled together down the stretch to avoid the upset, winning 62-53.

Nike Cross Country Nationals Dec. 3: Portland, Oregon Rio Rico senior Allie Schadler took seventh place at the Nike Cross Country Nationals held in Oregon on Saturday, Dec. 3. Schadler finished with a time of 17:48.6. Buena senior Manny Olivo-Quinones finished in 11th place with a time of 15:48.4.

Sahuaro sophomore standout Halley Hughes played even on her first three holes and even on the last three to hold off her teammate Serenity Guerrero 39 to 40 Thursday afternoon at the Dell Urich Golf Course in Tucson. The two helped Sahuaro score 178 as a team to defeat Buena (209) and Rincon/University (230).
