No. 1 Pusch Ridge would go on the defeat No. 4 Benjamin Franklin 47-7 to improve to 13-0 on the year while the Chargers fell to a respectable 11-2 mark in only the fourth year of the program’s existence.

The regular season is drawing to an end but there’s life on the horizon for teams hoping to play one more day and, if that day turns into a few more, then all the better. In the 3A conference, that new life comes in the form of the Play-In Tournament scheduled for Wednesday, Apr. 26.
It’s been three years since Sabino hosted a playoff game and the Sabercats will have to wait till next Tuesday to see if they will be hosting another. Ranked 14th, the Sabercats beat No. 12 Pusch Ridge 10-0 on Thursday night to clinch the 3A South Region but where the team lands in the Play-In Tournament is what matters most now.

Pusch Ridge beat Ironwood Ridge 8-1 Thursday, two days after beating Salpointe 5-4. For the Lions, it appears to be business as usual.
No.7 Cienega upset No. 2 Arcadia Friday night in 5A action to advance to the semifinal round to be played next Wednesday, Feb. 22 at Grand Canyon University. The Bobcats (18-6) are the only 4A to 6A team from Southern Arizona to survive the night. Tucson (6A), Marana (5A), Ironwood Ridge (5A), Pueblo (4A) and Canyon del Oro (4A) all lost in the various quarterfinal rounds.
Pusch Ridge was cruising against Tanque Verde Friday night, up 28-14 with 4:23 left in the third. It was a slow but steady lead, and it looked like it would stand up the rest of the way, but the Hawks made a furious comeback only to have the game come down to one play.
Tanque Verde survived a scare Monday night when Pusch Ridge took a 2-1 lead over the Hawks in an important 3A South Region match. The Hawks battled back, however, to win the match 3-2 to keep pace with Sabino for the region title.

Yazzie has been the head cross country and track coach at Pusch Ridge since 2005 and an art teacher at the school for a couple of years before that.
