State swim-dive meet takes off at Skyline Aquatic Center

November 2, 2011 by Les Willsey, AZPreps365

The 2011 Division I and Division II state swim and dive meets are heading 15 milles east this year to a new venue -- the sparkling Skyline Aquatic Center on the campus of Skyline High School in Mesa.

Meet director David Hines said the pool at Skyline is identical to that at Kino Junior High, site of last year's meet. The upgrade is more spectator seating. Bleachers are an extra three or four rows higher and there is more deck space, which makes it more comfortable for swimmers and meet personnel. Concessions will be nearby at the southwest end of the Skyline's football stadium, which is adjacent to the pool. Pool temperature will be around 80 degrees as swimmers will compete in much cooler conditions than usual.

Swimming competition gets underway Friday Nov. 4  at 10 a.m. with Division I prelims. Division II prelims follow at 2:30 p.m.. All finals are set to begin Saturday Nov. 5 at noon. Girls diving is Friday Nov. 4 with Division I competition at 9:45 a.m. and girls Division II at 1:45 p.m. Boys diving takes place  on Saturday with Division I competing at 9:45 a.m. and Division II following at 1:45 p.m.
