Sunnyside takes first place at 45th Flowing Wells Wrestling

Sunnyside, fresh off setting a national record for consecutive dual-meet victories last week with its 310th, won the 45th Flowing Wells Invitational Saturday night with the help of three individual champions.

Sunnyside scored 224.5 points to easiliy outdistance runner-up Ironwood Ridge (144). Cibola was third (140) followed by Thunderbird (136.5) and Corona del Sol and Mesa Mountain View, which tied for fifth with 131.5.

Sunnyside's three champs were Kory DeBerry  (152 pounds), Cedric Gonzalez (171) and William Espinoza (HWT). The only other school crowning multiple champions was Safford -- Greg Ornelas (119) and Ricardo Sierra (135).

Rounding out the other individual champs: Cibola's Rafael Jaimes (103); Chandler's Dalton Brady (112); Desert Vista's Robbie Mathers (125); Marcos de Niza's Jesse Morales (130); Mountain View's Seth Monty (140); Boulder Creek's Mike Contreras (145); Thunderbird's Jacob Graham (160); Mingus' Matt Chavez (189) and Corona del Sol's Simon Allen (215).
