"This past summer has been eventful. Truly life changing."

Haylin Harris was just a freshman but the Tucson Salpointe standout took eventual Division II state champion Kaylee Benton to the wire last fall, coming up just four strokes behind the Buckeye Verrado senior.

Her second place finish to the UNLV commit was not the end but the beginning of a truly remarkable offseason that included making the cut at the USGA U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in late July.

Harris lost in the first round of match play (3 and 2) at the Junior Championship that was played at the Tulsa Country Club but she was matched up with seasoned golfer Yu Sang Hou of Chinese Taipei.

Eventually, Harris will be the "seasoned golfer." Perhaps that has already happened.

"This was my first big event and I think I did pretty well," Harris said. "This past summer has been eventful. Truly life changing."

Harris competed in several other junior events this summer and will be traveling to Scottsdale this weekend to compete in the Scottsdale Junior Championship. She will also compete in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Girl’s Championship in early September in Greenville, South Carolina.

"I'm going to finish at the Furman Golf Club in South Carolina and then focus on high school the rest of the way," Harris added.
