Football: Southern Arizona schedule starts on Thursday

1A Cibecue (0-1) at 1A St. David (0-0)
First meeting between the two schools. St. David’s game against Mayer was cancelled last week due to lightning while Cibecue lost to Valley Union 66-0. This is the first varsity season for Cibecue since 2012. St. David is hoping to get back into the playoffs with no teams from Southern Arizona qualifying last year.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 30
6A Tucson (1-0) at 4A Pueblo (0-0)
Tucson holds a 33-10-2 record over Pueblo with the last Pueblo win coming in 2000. The Badgers beat the Warriors 30-12 last year. Tucson needs to keep winning to hang in the top 20 come ranking time.
5A Marana (0-1) at 5A Fairfax (0-1)
Marana beat Fairfax 26-0 last year in the first meeting between the two schools. Marana took a 55-3 beating from Horizon last week.
5A Cholla (0-1) at 5A Cienega (0-0)
Cienega beat Cholla 58-0 last year in the only meeting between the two schools.
5A Sunnyside (0-1) at 5A Desert View (0-0)
Sunnyside holds a 14-3 lead over Desert View including a 20-13 win last year. The Open Division means 3-4 more spots in the 5A playoffs.
4A Sahuaro (1-0) at 5A Buena (1-0)
Sahuaro holds a 17-10-1 record over Buena including a 16-15 loss last year. Buena looks to be the team to beat early on. This game came down to a late TD pass from Jovoni Borbon last year.
5A Empire (0-0) at 4A Rio Rico (0-1)
Empire holds a 5-1 record with Rio Rico coming up with a 14-13 win last year.
5A Flowing Wells (0-1) at 4A Walden Grove (0-0)
Flowing Wells holds a 2-1 record over Walden Grove with Walden Grove winning 35-21 last year.
6A Dobson (0-1) at 4A Salpointe (0-0)
Dobson leads the series 2-1 but Salpointe won 56-7 last year. The Lancers need to work week-by-week. Kevin Sumlin’s sons Joey Sumlin (So. DT) and Jackson Sumlin (Sr. TE) are on the Lancer roster. Jackson is 6-3, 220
4A Vista Grande (0-1) at 4A Amphitheater (0-1)
The two teams are tied up 1-1 with Vista Grande winning 19-0 last year. Panther head coach Jorge Mendivil going for win 100.
4A Catalina Foothills (0-1) at 4A Cactus (0-0)
Cactus is 2-0 against Catalina Foothills including a 36-12 win last year. Catalina Foothills in danger of opening up -20 for the first time since 2012.
4A Canyon del Oro (1-0) at 4A Prescott (0-1)
Canyon del Oro is 3-0 against Prescott including a 35-23 win last year. The Dorados are for real.
4A Casa Grande (1-0) at 3A Sabino (0-0)
Sabino holds a 5-1 record on Casa Grande but Casa Grande beat Sabino 21-6 last year. This game could be a season changer for both squads. Casa Grande started out 5-1 last year but the 4 Kino Region is a season killer.
3A Catalina (0-0) at 4A Palo Verde (0-1)
Palo Verde holds a 24-13 lead over Catalina dating back to 1963 including a 28-6 win last year.
4A Douglas (1-0) at 2A Bisbee (0-0)
Teams played three times in 1907. Did not play each other in 1918 due to a flu outbreak and from 1991-1994. Bisbee is on a 5-1 streak (forfeits count). Douglas holds an 83-58-7 advantage dating back to 1906. Played each other twice a year until 1955.
2A Santa Cruz (1-0) at 3A San Tan Foothills (0-1)
San Tan Foothills holds a 5-2 record over Santa Cruz but Santa Cruz won 26-0 last year. The Dust Devils are back in the mix.
2A San Manuel (0-1) at 2A Benson (0-0)
Benson holds an 11-6-1 advantage over San Manuel including a 49-6 win last year.
2A Morenci (0-0) at 2A Santa Rita (0-0)
Santa Rita holds a 2-1 advantage over Morenci but Morenci beat Santa Rita 66-0 last year in the first meeting between the schools since 1977.

Tombstone owns a 5-1 record over San Carlos including a 46-30 win last year.

Baboquivari holds a 6-3 record over San Pasqual including a 50-0 win last year.
