One of the biggest games of the season. Students gathered, decked in white. Parents joined together, ready to cheer for their players. Alumni reunited, excited to watch the game. The football team, eager to put on a show for the crowd. The homecoming game, one that no one will forget.

Arcadia High school Titan’s won their homecoming game 55-27 against Shadow Mountain, Friday night, at Arcadia.

Early in the game senior Quarterback, Kadin Beler, threw the ball to junior Wide Receiver, Crew Edwards, who then ran it in for a touchdown. This put Arcadia on the scoreboard just three minutes into the game.

Beler passed, Edwards received, and together they delivered.

These two players were the dynamic duo of the night.  Collaboratively they scored three out of the six touchdowns for Arcadia.

“I’m always talking to him you know, he’s like my brother, we’re always working at practice, we focus on chemistry, I trust him, I know he’s going to make plays. He’s a great receiver, great athlete.” Beler said.

That touchdown was a great recovery from the first play of the game. The play had the crowd, coaches, and team shocked and unsure.

“We fumbled the kick off to start the game, the kick off return, which completely sucked, but we got it back, got a touchdown…” Coach Kerry Taylor said.

With their momentum, Arcadia Titan’s were relentless in their effort to score. After the first half, they totalled more than 300 yards. Arcadia’s offense found the end-zone eight times, out of those eight, only six counted.

At the end of the half Arcadia lead Shadow Mountain 41-6.

Taylor gave the team a speech at half-time in an effort to keep up the energy and encourage the team to not back down or let Shadow Mountain off easy.

“Keep pounding it. Get some more scores, stop them on defense, and keep doing what we’re doing.” Edwards said in regards to what Taylor told the team at half time.

But, Arcadia started to slow down in the third quarter.

It was clear, Arcadia dominated the game. But that wasn’t any reason for Shadow Mountain to give up. They fought endlessly to make a comeback.

And they started to.

Shadow Mountain scored three times throughout the third and fourth quarter.

“I think we got too safe, too lazy, we didn’t come out as hard as we did the first half. We got too comfortable which can’t happen. We need to learn to play four quarters at top speed all the time.” Beler said.

The tight defensive play of Arcadia held off Shadow Mountain which held them to end the game with a total of 27 points and over 150 yards.

Arcadia delivered a show and made a memorable game for the students, parents, and alumni.

Next, Arcadia Highschool will prepare for and look to play Saguaro Sabercats Sept. 27.

“They’re going to try and overpower us. They’re big up front. They’re going to be physical and we got to show that we can match their physicality.” Taylor said.

Arcadia will work to show not only Saguaro, but their conference that they won’t be an easy target this season.

“We just got to play our game, execute, and not do stupid stuff. If we can take care of what we need to take care of, then we give ourselves a shot to play four quarters and win a ball game...” Taylor said.
