Arcadia standout Gavin Aurilia shot a 6-under-par 140 to win the Division II state tournament held at the Tucson Omni (Catalina Course) on Monday and Tuesday. Aurilia shot a tournament-best 69 on Monday to set the tone and he finished four strokes ahead of Thunderbird standout Daniel Thompson (-2, 144). Williams Field standout Rylan Johnson took third with a 1-under 145.

Former Arcadia standout Tucker Clark won the 2018 state championship bringing eight total individual titles to the Titans. A USC commit, Aurilia took fourth place last year.

The Higley Knights boys won the first state golf championship in program history, knocking off two-time defending champion Arcadia in the process. The Knights came in with a 28-over 612, Cactus Shadows came in second five shots back and Arcadia took third, ten shots off the pace.

On the girl’s side, Catalina Foothills senior Maya Benita won her first championship on the strength of a 7-under 135 on the Sonoran Course. This is the third individual title for the Falcon program.

The University of Arizona commit beat Millennium standout Madeline Laux by two strokes (-5, 137) and Cactus Shadows Calynne Rosholt came in third with a 4-under 138.

Benita took second last year and UNLV commit Laux came in fourth. Rosholt is an ASU commit who transferred in from Cedar Park, Texas.

As a team, Ironwood Ridge won its first championship in program history by holding off defending state champion Cactus Shadows by five strokes (592 to 597). Catalina Foothills took third (603).
