The Canyon View girls JV-A basketball team started their season with a loss to Youngker 45-40, but did not go down without giving their all.
To get the Jaguars started, sophomore Chyanne Lopez made a three-pointer early in the game, shortening the lead to 8-5. Following that, sophomore Kaila Morson put the Jags in the lead with a score of 10-8.
In the second quarter Lopez and freshman Marissa Garcia added three-pointers to make the score 21-20 by halftime.
Early in the second half Youngker took the lead, but Sarah Obermeyer and Lopez made back-to-back baskets to cut the lead to two. In the final minute of the third quarter, freshman Thamara Victorino made a three-pointer making the score 35-27.
During the final quarter, Morson brought the Jaguars close and Lopez made a shot pulling Canyon View within five, but Youngker pulled through with a 45-40 win.
“It was a really good game, unfortunately we lost, but we still fought hard,” said sophomore Chyanne Lopez.
