Girls, boys hoops: Winslow, Tuba City net victories

GIRLS HOOPS

WINSLOW 45, KAYENTA MONUMENT VALLEY 41

The Winslow Lady Bulldogs posted a non-region girl's basketball victory over the Kayenta Monument Valley Lady Mustangs on Saturday.

"Both teams played very hard today," said Winslow head coach Jerron Jordan. "I am proud of my team's defensive effort."

Winslow and Kayenta Monument Valley were tied at the end of first quarter. The Lady Mustangs outscored the Lady Bulldogs, 13-11, to take a 29-27 halftime advantage.

The Lady Mustangs netted 16 points to the Lady Bulldogs' 14 points to increase its lead to 35-31 lead as the third quarter expired. Winslow battled back in the fourth quarter, canning 14 points to Kayenta Monument Valley's six points.

Andrea Willeto, Oniah Barton Paddock and Kylie Begay each knocked down 10 points apiece for Winslow.

Angel Holiday poured in 15 points and Adrianna Sheppard added 13 points for Kayenta Monument Valley.

GIRLS HOOPS

TUBA CITY 43, GANADO 37

The Tuba City Lady Warriors stopped the Ganado Lady Hornets, 43-37, in a 3A North Region girl's basketball game on Saturday.

Ganado took a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Tuba City canned nine points to Ganado's eight points in the second stanza, tying the game at 15-15 at halftime.

The Lady Warriors outpointed the Lady Hornets, 17-12, to take a 32-27 lead at the end of the third quarter. Tuba City netted 11 points to Ganado's 10 points in the fourth frame.

Jayda Chee tallied 12 points and Larissa Yazzie added 10 points for Tuba City.

"Jayda Chee and Larissa Yazzie stepped up and played well," said Tuba City head coach Kimberly Williams. "My guards played good defense on their guards. I had nine of my bench players all doing their job."

BOYS HOOPS

WINSLOW 75, KAYENTA MONUMENT VALLEY 70

In an exciting boy's non-region matchup, the Winslow Bulldogs pulled off a 75-70 win over the Kayenta Monument Valley Mustangs on Saturday.

"Noah Brown, our freshman point guard, went 10-for-10 from the free throw linem makking eight of them in the fourth quarter," said Winslow head coach Scott Corum.

Winslow lead 17-14 at the end of the first period. The Bulldogs nailed 18 points, while the Mustangs knocked down 13 points. Winslow took a 35-27 lead into the locker roon for halftime.

The Mustangs outscored the Bulldogs, 21-18, in the third quarter. Winslow continued to lead the game, 53-48. Winslow and Kayenta Monument Valley each canned 22 points apiece in the fourth period.

Five players scored in double digits for Winslow. Topping the Bulldogs was Dustin Richard with 19 points. Zach Wagner added 16 points, followed by Tyrell Young with 14 points, Jordan Lee with 11 points and Noah Brown with 10 points.

Albramden Byjoe poured in 23 points to lead Kayenta Monument Valley. Andrew Sheppard added 18 points and Simeon Thinn canned 11 points for the Mustangs.
