MESA, ARIZ.-- The Highland softball team thrived on offense in a 27-2 victory against Williams Field on Thursday night at the Westwood-Dobson 30th Annual Invitational.
Megan McCamman delivered five hits and a home run in the victory.
“I told myself to focus on the ball instead of the game,” said McCammam.
“When she relaxes," head coach Brian Schmidt said, "good things happen."
When McCamman is up to bat, she likes to think base hit because she does not want to think too big.
When it came to defense, the team was there for pitcher Kaitlin Feeney.
“I know that when I go into the circle the defense has my back and I can just do my thing,” said Feeney.
The team proved themselves to Feeney in its offensive plays. Along with McCamman, Mckenzie Cox also had a huge game batting third in the lineup.
“I wanted to keep it smooth to get the ball going,” she said.
Cox felt that the team did well considering they were playing together for the first time, but there is still room for improvement. While they are still playing individually, the team plans to focus on making moves for growth.
“Eventually we will grow together with the games ahead,” Cox said.
According to Schmidt, the plan going into the game was to focus on the ball and see it well. Each player contributed to the win and got the season going with a good start.
Highland next plays Friday, with games against Arcadia at 2 p.m. and Desert Mountain at 6 p.m.
