Baseball: Alchesay knocks off Window Rock, 11-3

Alchesay Falcons utilized a strong offensive batting performance to post an 11-3 victory over the Window Rock Scouts in a freedom baseball game in Fort Defiance on Tuesday afternoon.
Alchesay head coach Ray Acosta said the Falcons hit the ball well.
"We made contact at the plate," Acosta said. "We put the ball into play. It was a good outing for us. We played Window Rock last week. Over a week's time, Window Rock improved. Window Rock's pitcher threw well."
Alchesay swept Window Rock in its two games this season. Alchesay blanked Window Rock, 12-0, in Whiteriver last week in a freedom game.
The Falcons pounded 13 hits en route to its victory. Alchesay remains undefeated at 7-0, after its victory. Alchesay travels to Laughlin, Nevada to compete in the Route 66 Classic baseball tournament, Thursday through Saturday. The Falcons face Kingman Academy and Central of El Centro, California on Thursday. The Falcons meet Southwest El Centro, California and Needles, California on Saturday. Alchesay takes n Kingman on Saturday.
"We're playing in a very challenging tournament this weekend," Acosta said. "The tournament will help us when we begin our region play. We're looking forward to playing in the tournament."
Alchesay lead off batter Timmie Cosay hit a single in the first inning. Falcons' Brayden Cosay cracked a two-run homer. Alchesay's Trent Sprengler walked. Sprengler crossed the plate on a double by Elliot Joplin for a 3-0 lead for Alchesay.
Alchesay's Wiley Walker singled to begin the third inning. He later scored on a Window Rock throwing error for a 4-0 Falcon advantage.
Window Rock's Ethan Barton led off the third inning with a two-bagger. Rainer Morgan's sacrifice fly to centerfield allowed Barton to score, as the Scouts cut the Falcons' advantage to three runs, 4-1. A Window Rock's fielding error and walk put runners on the bases. Alchesay tallied three runs for a 7-1 lead.
The Scouts tallied its final two runs of the game in the fourth inning. Caleb Tsosie began the fourth inning with a sngle. Scouts teammate Russell Yoe was hit-by-pitch. A Falcon fielding error allowed Tsosie to score. Window Rock's Noah Haven's RBI single drove in Yoe.
With two outs, Alchesay's Dante Shipp doubled into the right centerfield power alley. Falcons' Eli Thompson cracked a fast ball over the left field fence with two outs. Thompson failed to touch home plate. Prior to the next pitch, Window Rock touched home plate and the third out was called by the chief umpire behind the plate, erasing the two scores, inclduing the home run.
Alchesay talliued four insurance runs in the top half of the seventh inning.
Starting pitcher Wiley Walker was the winning pitcher. Window Rock starting hurler Rainer Morgan suffered the loss.
Timmie Cosay and Brayden Cosay both had three hits each to lead Alchesay.
Topping Window Rock at the plate were Ethan Barton and Noah Haven with two hits apiece.
First-year Window Rock head coach Kody Wauneka said the Scouts need work on fundamentals.
"We left runners on the bases," Wauneka said. "Alchesay is a well rounded ball team. They are well coaches. We got good pitching from Rainer Morgan. We need more practice on the field. It's a learning experience for us."
Window Rock's baseball game at Snowflake has been postponed until a later date, due to Corona Virus. Window Rock entertains Winslow Bulldogs on March 18 at 3 p.m.
