Brody Curtner is a four time starter and a senior on the Gilbert Christian Men's Soccer Team. He believes this year the team is even better and even more prepared. “We are good enough to win the championship,” said Brody. The Knights were last year's playoff contenders and since then lost many talented seniors. It would be hard to replace such a wide variety of players but somehow the Knights pulled it off. The incoming freshmen are a trick up the Knight's sleeve. I asked Brody what he thought of them, “The freshmen are insane, if you didn't know them you would think they are juniors. They play smart and fast,” he said. The Knights are 5-2 with hopes of going to the finals, they definitely have the talent to do so.
Brody Curtner has been playing soccer since seventh grade and has a devoted love for the game. Although he does not plan to play in college, due to the high volume of competitiveness to get on a team, he still loves the sport passionately. Brody's favorite and best position is as a forward, where he feels he is able to take charge and lead his team. The most frustrating part of the game for Brody is a good defense, especially when a man marks him all game.
With COVID-19 the Knights lost their fans and they are unable to attend games due to AIA rules. Many players miss this aspect of the game. The Knights do their best to recreate the energy on the field so in Brody's words “It's not too bad without them.” Another rule the AIA has enforced is masks during the game. I asked Brody if this affects them at all or how it changes the game, “The mask falls a bunch so you have to pull it up from time to time, but the most change with it has been learning to try and breath with it. It makes it more difficult.” Brody Curtner is a captain and a dominant force on this year's Knights soccer team and will try to help bring his team to the championship.
