Gilbert Christian’s very own: Katie Gross’s Senior Season in the Time of COVID-19
After over six years of playing basketball, senior captain Katie Gross’s basketball days are almost over! How is COVID-19 affecting her and how will she truly leave her mark on the court?
How is being a senior on the varsity basketball team different from years prior?
Katie says, “It really changes your outlook and attitude on the sport because it's potentially the last year I will ever play basketball and it pushes me to make this year the best. I really want to win the state championship and leave my legacy.”
How do you lead your younger teammates as a senior?
“I’m a really positive person so I strive to be positive and encouraging all the time. Basketball is my favorite sport and I’m really competitive so I obviously like winning but nothing is enjoyable if it’s not fun, so I also try to just have a good time.” Katie answered..
What's your motivation through this tough season?
Katie had a lot to say about this. “As much as I encourage others, my teammates always encourage me too. My coaches also push me to always try my best and to leave everything on the court. I try my best for my teammates and coaches.”
Do you believe the basketball team will make it to state this year and why?
“I do. I think this is the first year we really play as a team and not as an individual. We all are so excited just to be having a season at all so we are working extra hard this season.” Katie says.
How is this season different due to COVID-19?
Katie says, “The main thing that changes this season is we have to wear masks all the time. It’s not ideal but I’m just grateful we have a season at all!”
Currently the girl’s varsity team is nine and one! A great start to the season.
Although Katies’s sad to leave next year, she honestly believes her last year of basketball will be the best season yet! She will truly leave it all out on the court not just for her coaches or teammates but for herself too!
