Tucson area schools will be active in hosting a couple of wrestling invitationals Jan. 6-7 and a big one the following weekend Jan. 13-14.

This weekend (Friday January  6 and Saturday Janyuary 7) the Catalina Invitational (at Catalina High School) and the Marana Duals (at Marana High School) are the main events.

At Catalina High, a tournament with a traditional format, there's a decidely southern Arizona flavor with Amphitheater, Baboquivari, Bisbee, Buena, Canyon del Oro, Catalina, Chaparral, Desert View, Dougals, Empire, Globe, Notre Dame Prep, Palo Verde, Rio Rico, Sahuaro, Salpointe, Tombstone, Vista Grande and Academy of Tucson in the field.

Marana's tourney is a dual-meet formate. Entered there are Benson, Carl Hayden, Casa Grande, Estrella Foothills, Fountain Hills, Marana, Nogales, Sahuarita, Santa Cruz and Willcox.

Many of the state's top teams from all divisons head to Flowing Wells the on Friday January 13 and Saturday January 14 for one of the marquee in-state tournaments of the year. More on that next week.
