Winning the state championship is not just about receiving a trophy. It’s about how the team’s hard work paid off and how the memories it made will last a lifetime.

“This win is definitely one the Campo Verde girls’ soccer program will always remember,'' senior Kayla Cabellaro said. “This win to me personally means so much as it was my last year playing high school soccer, so to end winning a state championship is a once and a lifetime opportunity as a high school senior.”

Junior Lexi Kreipke said, “It feels so empowering to win it all, but I am also so grateful for all of the friendships I have built throughout this season.”

This season, the team improved their relationships and became more of a family.

“The bond between everyone this season was really great. I think that if we all weren't so close and the community wasn't this great, we wouldn't have gotten to where we did,” said sophomore Bekah Eicher.

Caballero said the skills a team needs ito win are “fitness, soccer IQ, dedication, passion and togetherness.

“I say ‘As a team because no one person can win a championship or even a game by themselves; it takes a team that has the will to work together and work for each other to win and that was our number one skill used to wil!.'”

Not only did the team work together and push each other to get where they are, but coach Drew Guarneri also inspired them to win.

“Coach Drew has always encouraged me throughout the season. Whenever I've had a bad game, he helps me improve by explaining to me what's wrong and how I can fix it,” Eicher said.

Kreipke agreed that Guarneri pushed her to play her best.

Kreipke finished this season first in points, second in goals and third in assists for division 5A.

Kreipke will use her “successes from this year as motivation next year” to push herself.

“I have gained so much confidence in myself and my team and I know we have a great shot at this again next season!”

This year, Kreipke has been a major asset for her team; however, the state championship win was not a one man show.

“Every single person on the team stepped up and contributed to the win,” she said.

Eicher agreed. “This win was such an accomplishment. We've worked so hard for the past few months and it feels so good to be rewarded with the title of state champions.”
