The state tournament is one week away so let’s take a quick look at the playoff picture:

The winner of each section will earn an automatic playoff berth so that would be six automatic berths in Division I and seven in Division II. The remaining playoff spots will be determined by power ranking.

 

DIVISION I/SECTION I

Corona del Sol (9-1 overall, 4-0 section) and Desert Vista (9-1, 4-0) are safe bets for the state playoffs and the two teams will meet on Wednesday with a section title on the line. Ironwood Ridge (7-3, 2-1) is looking to improve on a playoff seed this week.

 

DIVISION I/SECTION II

Valley Vista (8-3, 5-0), Verrado (9-1, 4-1) and Millennium (6-3, 3-1) are in the playoff mix but Valley Vista could drop out with a loss or create a logjam at the top of the section with a win over Verrado on Wednesday.

 

DIVISION I/SECTION III

Xavier Prep (10-0, 4-0) can win the section with a victory over Basha (11-1, 3-1) on Wednesday but both teams are looking at a super ranking in the top four along with Perry (9-1, 3-1). This is the most difficult section by far. Casteel (6-4, 1-3) has a shot at the last seed.

 

DIVISION I/SECTION IV

O’Connor (9-1, 4-0) can clinch the section on Wednesday. Mountain Ridge (8-2, 4-1) appears to be safe as does Desert Mountain (8-2, 3-2).

 

DIVISION I/SECTION V

Desert Ridge (9-2, 5-0) is in but Campo Verde (9-2, 4-1) and Gilbert (6-5, 4-1) are on the edge and both could be the last two playoff teams in.

 

DIVISION I/SECTION VI

Mesa Mountain View (8-2, 4-0) won the section and the Toros are in.

 

DIVISION II/SECTION I

Salpointe (10-0, 3-0) is in and playing for the top seed. Canyon del Oro (5-5, 2-1) is on the edge.

 

DIVISION II/SECTION II

Chandler Prep (9-1, 3-0) and Gilbert Christian (9-2, 2-0) are locks but are battling for the section title. ALA-Gilbert North (8-1, 2-1) looks good as does San Tan Charter (7-3, 3-1).

 

DIVISION II/SECTION III

Valley Christian (10-0, 3-0) and Mesquite (9-1, 2-0) are safe.

 

DIVISION II/SECTION IV

Coconino (11-0, 3-0) and Flagstaff (9-2, 3-0) are playing for the section championship on Wednesday. Mohave (6-4, 2-2) is hoping to be the third team from the section in.

 

DIVISION II/SECTION V

Deer Valley (7-3, 2-0) and Estrella Foothills (8-2, 3-0) look safe but Trivium Prep (6-5, 3-1) is on the edge.

 

DIVISION II/SECTION VI

Fountain Hills (12-0, 3-0) won the section title. Northwest Christian (7-4, 2-1) looks safe.

 

DIVISION II/SECTION VII

Rancho Solano Prep (3-6, 2-0) is outside of the top 16 but could win the section.
