No. 3 Catalina Foothills beat No. 6 Arcadia 6-0 Tuesday to advance to the semifinal round of the D-II state playoffs scheduled for Friday at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale at noon. The Falcons will be taking on the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 10 Nogales and No. 2 Cactus Shadows. That quarterfinal match is slated for Thursday.
Arcadia fell to 13-2 on the year and the Falcons are now 13-0 and riding a 29-match win streak dating back to March of 2019. The Falcons won a state title in 2018 and again in 2019 but the team was unable to defend their trophy last year. The program has 15 state championships.
There were two huge upsets in the top half of the bracket with No. 9 Canyon View knocking off No. 1 ALA-Gilbert North 5-2 and No. 13 Salpointe upending No. 5 Notre Dame 5-3. Canyon View and Salpointe will play in the other semifinal match set for 11 a.m. on Friday.
Salpointe took care of No. 4 Lake Havasu 9-0 in the first round.
