A three-game losing streak early is a distant memory if recalled at all.

#2 Liberty's baseball team continued a torrid stretch of hitting and solid postseason of pitching with a 9-3 victory Saturday over #6 Sandra Day O'Connor in a 6A semifinal game at HoHoKam Stadium.

Liberty (20-3) notched a spot in Tuesday's 6A title game where it will face the Hamilton-Alhambra winner at 7 p.m. at Diablo Stadium. The Lions win was its 18th in a row and during the streak are averaging 11 runs per game. They've won two previous titles 2010 in 4A and 2018 in 5A. SDO finished 15-8.

Liberty pounded out 14 hits with every hitter in the starting lineup collected a hit. The Lions scored four runs in the first inning, starting off with four consecutive hits and five in the opening frame. They never gave SDO a chance with the hot start and increased their lead to 8-0 after three.

"We've developed a good approach at the plate," Liberty coach Chris Raymond said. "We've seen some top-tier pitching this year, and just kept at it. Our pitching has been outstanding with that especially lately."

Raymond credited assistants Anthony Forelli and Mike Schiefelbien with the work they've done with hitters and pitchers, respectively.

The latest strong outing on the mound in postseason came from senior Patrick Steitz. Steitz scattered eight hits, allowed three runs of which one was earned. He walked two  and struck out three. He bested Chandler in the opening round with six strong innings with Kaden Schiefelbien notching a save with an inning of work. Schiefelbien stifed Chaparral, 14-1, in the quarterfinals with a 3 1/3 innings in his start in a five-inning run rule.

Liberty had five hitters with two hits - Schiefelbien (2-4), Kolby Felix (2-4), Carson Baker (2-3), Tyler Cowan (2-4) and Gavin Armbrister (2-4). RBI leaders for the Lions were Baker and Ryan Ambrosy with two. Six players had at least one RBI.

It was a tough way for SDO to finish a solid year.

"The last three, four innings I gathered our guys and told them to show some pride and fight," SDO coach Jeff Baumgartner said. "We did that. The better team won. They're on fire."
