PHOENIX— Brophy College Prep looked dominant in its home opener Tuesday night, defeating Mesa Westwood, 65-22. “It’s good to be back, it’s good to have people back in the stadium, the energy was there,” said senior power foward Trey Phillips. “Handled business. I  think we made good enough statement that we needed to.

The Bronco’s plan was just to have fun and bring the energy onto the court. “Just put the energy into a positive light and that showed tonight,” said senior shooting guard Patrick Chew.

“We just love each other, we are a bond, really a family,” said the 6'6" Phillips, who scored five points, including a dunk. “We are happy to see everyone on this team do good so as soon as anyone does good anywhere we gather around them and that energy will take us a long way.”

The Broncos certainly did that. After every three-pointer the bench would stand up and get boisterous. In the first quarter, Phillips scored on an ally oop pass from Chew and set the game tempo early on.

“Playing for your teammates rather than with your teammates,” said head coach Matt Hooten. “That chemistry at the beginning of the year is still developing and I think this group understands what that means.”

“The little things help us win games,” said Chew, who led all scorers with 13 points.

Whether it was getting rebounds or creating turnovers, the Broncos won at all the little things.

“We are constantly trying to play our best game of the season," said coach Hooten. "The next game on the schedule, we just take it one game at a time."

After losing in the semifinals in playoffs last year the Broncos have a chip on their shoulder to be better in every aspect of the game.

The Broncos (1-0) will be on the road for their next game at Valley Vista Thursday.
