#3 Seton Catholic's girls basketball continued its recent mastery of #4 Mesquite on Tuesday night.

The Sentinels bolted to a 19-8 lead after the opening quarter and added on the rest of the way in a decisive 53-29 victory at Mesquite.

It was Seton's eighth win in a row over Mesquite dating back to January of 2019. The triumph leaves Seton alone atop the 4A Desert Sky Region. Seton is 16-5 overall, 5-0 in region. Mesquite fell to 15-6, 4-1. Seton has played in eight consecutive championshiop games and prevailed in six of the eight. The Sentinels are in the hunt again.

Seton's offensive production belonged solely to its starting five - only one of whom is a senior. Guards Sasha Daniel (the senior) and Amelie Cartagena (junior) netted 16 points apiece.  Freshman guard Sophia Morales added eight. The inside game was controlled by sophomore Caitlyn Benally (10 points) and freshman Raigan Gregston (3 points). Dez Johnson paced Mesquite with 7 points and Mya Way and Vanessa Sepulveda chipped in six points each.

Daniel and Morales keyed the first-quarter getaway with six points each. Daniel sliced and diced her way to two layups and a runner in the lane in the quarter. Morales tallied her six with a pair of threes.

Mesquite was not hesitant when it came to shooting threes, but connected on only 4 of 23. Seton enjoyed better marksmanship from behind the arc, making 6 of 14.

Seton remains busy as the regular season has only one week left. Seton vists Poston Butte on Wednesday, hosts ALA-Queen Creek on Friday, Mesquite on Saturday and concludes at Marcos de Niza on Monday. Mesquite has three games left - hosting Saguaro on Thursday, at Mesquite Saturday and at ALA-QC on Monday.
