Hamilton High School has won football and baseball titles in its two-decade existence. Basketball is the one of the big three boys sports that's missing.

The ninth-seeded Huskies get their first shot at remedying that after they outlasted 12th-seeded Boulder Creek in overtime, 61-55, on Friday night at Hamilton.

Hamilton (21-8) battles a familiar foe in the championship game - Premier Region rival Perry. The Pumas advanced with a triple overtime win over Brophy, 49-47 to qualify for their first title game in a shorter school history. Perry won both regular-season meetings this season.

Hamilton had to overcome a 14-point deficit in the first half. The Huskies survived thanks to the superb play of senior guard Daimon Denning in regulation and the performance of Quincy Adams in overtime.  They scratched and clawed to tie Boulder Creek at 42 heading to the final quarter. Denning (19 points) scored all seven of the Huskies' points in the fourth quarter, including the game-tying three with 25 seconds left.

Boulder Creek (23-9) got the first possession of overtime and committed a turnover. Hamilton missed a couple shots on its first possession, but took the lead on a put-back, three-point play by Adams at the 2:48 mark. Boulder Creek's Espn Polanski answered with a tying three.

Hamilton grabbed the lead for good with four consecutive points (56-52) - a runner from Jalen Lee (1:40 left) for his only points and two free throws by Adams (1:07). Boulder Creek kept the pressure on with a three by Hayden Brewer (:49). Adams (game-high 23 points) closed it out making five of six free throws in the final 48 seconds.

Dylan Spilde and Rowan McKenzie paced the Jaguars in the semis with 13 points apiece. Polanski added 10 and Brewer 9. Boulder Creek won three games to reach the semis. They topped Dobson in a play-in game and followed upending #5 Highland and #4 Mountain Pointe. Hamilton did as well - topping in order #24 Cibola, #8 Mesa and defending champ #1 Sunnyslope.

The title game, set for Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Arizona Veteran's Memorial Coliseum, pits coaches who are former Corona players  - Doug Harris (1990 graduate) and Sammy Duane Jr. (1986 grad). Harris has a coaching title at Desert Vista (2008) and Duane Jr. (four) guiding Corona del Sol (2012-2015). Harris, a standout in his playing days, has a championship as a player for Corona del Sol in 1989.
