Mountain View's girls volleyball program has struggled overall when it comes to battling Xavier Prep. Many teams have so there is no shame in it.

However, the Toros have a small streak going at present against the Gators. That continued Wednesday night at Toro Gym. Mountain View notched its third consecutive victory over Xavier needing five sets to walk away with a 25-23, 14-25, 19-25, 25-21 and 15-9 triumph.

The victory was Mountain View's first power-ranking win this season. The Toros are 1-3 with the three losses to Queen Creek, Liberty and Sandra Day O'Connor. Those three schools have a combined power-ranking-match record this season of 13-3.

Prior to Mountain View wins in 2020 and 2021, the Toros dropped 12 matches in a row to Xavier in a 15-year stretch. Current Mountain View coach Clark Fleming felt honored to pilot a victory and keep the small success-streak intact.

"They are so well coached and make so many adjustments quickly," Fleming said. "We were in a situation where it was a good back and forth. I felt bad there was some controversy over the score in the last set. I feel good and lucky we came out on top."

Mountain View claimed the decisive set with 10 kills from five different players accounting for two-third of their points. Jordyn Decker had three kills, Reece Fischbeck two and Olivia Tukuafu, Aubrey Parris and Madison Green one each.

Unofficial totals for Mountain View's and Xavier's attack leaders - (Mtn. View) Tukuafu 19, Fischbeck 17 and Decker 11. (Xavier) Vivian Hickman 11, Courtney Snopko 9 and Camila Cornejo-Farmer 8.

Mountain View gets almost a week off from matches, but will need to be ready when it resumes action on Sept. 20 at Corona del Sol. The Aztecs are currently 5-0 in power-ranking matches and were champions last weekend of the Westwood Tournament of Champions. Xavier heads to the 64-team, Durango Classic Tournament in Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday.
