Centennial High School’s four-game winning streak screeched to a halt Thursday night in Peoria. The Coyotes lost to Sunrise Mountain 25-14, 25-18, 25-15.

In the first set, the Coyotes quickly fell behind 6-1. Centennial did earn some points back before falling in the first set.

The Coyotes made a comeback in the second set, trading point for point until the middle of the set when the Mustangs took the lead and marched to victory, 25-18.

During the third set, it was very close in the beginning only two points separating the teams until Sunrise took the win.

Despite their loss, the Coyotes were constantly supporting one another, calling out plays, and calling the ball. Senior captain libero Kira Federico helped Centennial stay in the game, getting 21 digs. Senior middle hitter and captain Raeli Smith had eight attacks, three digs, and three solo blocks.

Sunrise is one of Centennial's longest-standing rivals. In the past five years, the Coyotes have posted a 4-6 record against the Mustangs.

“The team has the ability to play hard even when it is not our night,” said Centennial coach Reagan Leonard. “I am really proud of the team. Every single one of them fought their little heart out."

Up next, Centennial will travel to Scottsdale to face Horizon High School (8-1) on Monday, then host Apollo High School (0-8) on Wednesday.
