The 3rd Annual John Gleeson Lancer Invitational was held Saturday morning at the Rolling Hills Golf Course. The Ironwood Ridge boys scored 64 points to beat Brophy (81) and Salpointe (113) took third place. On the girl’s side, Xavier (36) beat Salpointe (60) and Rincon/University (102).

Brophy, Xavier and Rincon/UHS are Division I programs, Catalina Foothills is D-II and Salpointe competes in D-III. Current Catalina Foothills senior Brandon Martz took first at the Lancer Invitational (15:43.0). The Salpointe boys won back-to-back state championships in 2020 and 2021.

Salpointe senior Kylie Wild is coming off of two state individual championships and the Lancers took second last year after winning it all in 2020. Wild won the Lance Invite (18:48.7) again this year.

The various regional meets for the four divisions are slated to take place during the first three days of November with the top 50% scoring teams advancing to the state tournament set for Saturday, Nov. 12. The top seven runners not attached to a qualifying team will also earn a state berth.
