Cheyenne Clouatre attends Gilbert Christian High School and is a member of the AIA's student SID program.

Nevaeh Lehman is a Senior on the varsity swim team. She has always enjoyed swim, and this is her first year on the GCHS swim team. Overall she has had a great experience in and out of the pool. “I really enjoyed getting to know all of my teammates better both during practice and meets, but also outside of swim. There have been times where the whole team has gone out to dinner after a swim meet or to breakfast after an early morning practice, and I think those are the times where we have really bonded!” (Lehman)

Nevaeh is a big part of the team and helps her teammates by encouraging them. “I always try to encourage my teammates and keep them positive and motivated, and one of the best ways to do that is by staying positive myself.” She goes on to say “It’s really difficult to encourage others to be positive if you aren’t setting a good example of what that looks like.”

Even though Neveah is a great example to the team, having encouraging teammates and coaches helps her improve. “One piece of advice that’s stuck with me is that you are going to make mistakes and you are going to mess up, but those mistakes are important because they help you to learn. Everyone makes mistakes, but you really can use those mistakes to get better.” (Lehman)

Nevaeh has had a great season so far with many successes, her biggest one being the 100 yard  breaststroke. She broke her original time and has set a new personal record of 1:32! “Being on the swim team has made me a better player in many ways. It has really taught me the importance of working hard and always doing my best. When I don’t put in the work, I can tell the difference because I don’t usually do as well.” (Lehman)

She works hard and succeeds! She also enjoys being able to play sports at a Christian school because, “We are able to pray before meets and do devotions as a team which really helps us bond and come together as a team in a way that’s really not possible at other schools.” (Lehman) Nevaeh has grown so much mentally and physically which helps her accomplish her goals.

With an amazing team to back her up and rely on she can say confidently, “She can never really lose!”
