Salpointe head coach Kelly Pierce earned her 100th career victory as a high school coach Tuesday night during pool play of the Brandon Bean Tournament held at the school this week. Pierce started her high school coaching career with Mountain View Marana before moving over to coach at her alma mater in the 2017-2018 season.

Pierce went on to lead the Lancers to state championships in her first year and she followed that up with championships in 2019, 2021 and 2022. Pierce also won two state championships as a player at Salpointe in 1998 and 1999. She most recently won several honors and conference championships playing for FC Tucson Women before moving over to coach the WPSL power to conference championships.

“It's humbling. It's exciting, but it's a good start to the season, obviously. I don't want to get emotional but it’s been a long journey,” Pierce said after her victory over Catalina in pool play action. “I'm happy to still be here and still be a part of it and to be successful. If it wasn't for obviously the support of my family and always having great coaches from my Mountain View days to the beginning here and all the way through, and players that believed in what I was selling and families gave me just a ton of support. It's a process and I'm really happy.”

The Brandon Bean Tournament continues with more pool play on Wednesday with bracket play starting on Thursday.
