Basha football pieced together a pair of decent winning streaks this season. Five games to begin the season and six more after Saturday's Open Division 13-0 semifinal victory over Chandler.

Those streaks have combined to earn the Bears a championship game appearance for the first time in the school's two-decade history - and shot at an Open Division title at that. #2 Basha (11-1) takes on defending Open champ and #5 Saguaro Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at Sun Devil Stadium.

Basha used a first-quarter touchdown run by junior quarterback Demond Williams and a pair of second-half field goals from junior kicker Timothy Tynan for its points. It's been no small feat shutting out Chandler, one of the dominant programs for the past decade or so regardless of conference. The Wolves hadn't been blanked in a game since postseason of 2011. The Wolves streak of title-game appearances was snapped at six (2016-2021).

Basha's touchdown was scored with 2:16 left in the first quarter with Williams tallying on a 25-yard run. Defenses ruled on both sides, but Basha was able to add a 42-yard Tynan field goal with 1:34 left in the third period. That came after Basha foiled a fourth-and-one pass by Chandler at the Basha 36. Basha mixed the run and pass to march to Chandler's red zone and settled for Tynan's first field goal and a 10-0 lead.

The final points came with 3:22 to play. Basha forced a Chandler punt two minutes into the final quarter and proceeded to eat seven minutes of clock, finishing with a 37-yard three-pointer from Tynan. Chandler's final possession ended after four plays with an interception by Basha defensive back Miles Lockhart at the Basha 44.
