Nogales improved to 7-0 in power-ranking games after beating Ironwood Ridge 58-46 Tuesday night on the road. The Apaches came in ranked No. 3 in the 5A Conference and Ironwood Ridge (7-3) was No. 9. Nogales is also ranked No. 8 in the new Open Division system and the Nighthawks are No. 29. The AIA rankings are updated every week from Tuesday to Friday at noon.

The Apaches led 11-5 after the first quarter and 28-18 at the half. Nogales sophomore Cecy Burruel hit a bucket and then a 3-pointer with 2:36 left in the second quarter to put the Apaches up 26-14 but Ironwood Ridge sophomore Sidney Anderson scored eight of her game-high 20 points, including back-to-back 3-pointers, to cut the lead down to 28-24 with 6:30 left in the third.

The 14-2 run got the Nighthawks back into the game but a couple of missed free throws ended the threat and Burruel hit a 3-pointer to put the Apaches back up 31-24. The Nighthawks were still within striking distance but Camila Insunza scored five points in the final 37 seconds of the third to put Nogales up 46-33.

Ironwood Ridge battled back in the fourth to cut the lead down to eight points twice but the Apaches hit on eight straight free throws to preserve the 58-46 victory. Burruel led Nogales with 18 points, Daniela Ochoa added 17, Jessica Villarino had 8 and Astrid Zubiate scored 7 to help lead the Apaches. Anderson had her 20 points, Annalise Holthaus scored 12 and Molly Walter added 6 for Ironwood Ridge.
