PRESCOTT — Lee Williams leading scorer Sophia Fottrell took advantage of a momentary lapse in focus by the defense to score the go-ahead goal in the 77th minute, giving the No. 3-ranked Volunteers a huge 2-1 win over previously undefeated Prescott on Thursday night.

It is the sixth straight win for Lee Williams (11-1, 3-0 4A Grand Canyon), which now controls its own destiny in the final two weeks of the regular season.

In the matches’ final minutes, Lee Williams inbounded the ball on the right side of the field. It appeared to be slightly booted by a Volunteer player before rolling past three Badger defenders and into the waiting quick feet of Fottrell, who didn’t miss the back of the next for the win.

It was the 32nd goal of the season for the 5-foot-2 forward, who put the Volunteers up 1-0 in the first half off a penalty kick in the 20th minute after she was taken down in the box.

In the 65th minute, Prescott freshman midfielder Rianna Aguilar was in the right place at the right time, scoring a goal in the 65th minute to tie the game, 1-1, but the right foot of Fottrell ended all Badger hopes of a come-from-behind victory.
