Carl Hayden defeats the Maryvale Panthers

Carl Hayden Community completed a season sweep of Maryvale, winning 64-46 on Thursday night.

The last time these teams played against each other, Carl Hayden won 53-50. Entering this game, Carl Hayden knew it wasn't going go be easy.

“We respect Maryvale, they are a good team, well-coached team, we can't play with our food,” said coach Rondey Brown. 

Carl Hayden started with intense defense, forcing Maryvale to have three turnovers in the first three minutes. Tion Wright was one of the players who showed his defensive skills. Carl Hayden went on an 8-0 run with five minutes left in the first quarter.

The atmosphere at Carl Hayden was electric. As soon as you walked in the gym you could feel the game's energy and the intensity. Carl Hayden players fed off the energy of the crowd, especially when the score was 18-7 at the end of the first-quarter. 

Maryvale struggled to score against Carl Hayden's full court-press. At the end of the second quarter, Carl Hayden led 36-20.

Maryvale's costly turnovers allowed Carl Hayden to go on a run and score big in the first two quarters. Junior guard Dru Carter played with intensity and hard defense, finishing with 13 points. Senior forward Adrien Armstrong added 10 points.

“We excelled on playing together, playing as a team, moving the ball around and having fun,” Armstrong said. 

Carl Hayden excelled with ball movement and getting everybody an opportunity to score. Armstrong and Kendre Pride showed leadership. Carter was also part of the mix, pushing his team's pace and facilitating.
