KINGMAN — Sophia Fottrell picked a heck of a time to set the Lee Williams school record for total goals scored in a season, netting the game-winner for a 1-0 victory against Paradise Honors in the first round of the 4A state playoffs Wednesday night.

The game-winning score was assisted by Kylie Gunnoe off an inbounds throw.

It was Fottrell’s 38th goal of the season for the No. 3 Volunteers (14-1-1, 5-0-1 4A Grand Canyon), which have now won nine of 10 to advance to the state quarterfinals against No. 11-seeded Arizona College Prep. on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Lauren Nguyen recorded her 11th shutout of the season.

Official start time Saturday is at 2 p.m.
