Dobson girls basketball coach Henry Bribiescas experienced some deja vu in the Mustangs 6A quarterfinal game vs. Mountain Ridge. The deja vu came courtesy of junior guard Ahdiayh Chee.

Chee poured in 29 points - 22 in the first half - pacing host and #3 seed Dobson to a 55-47 win Tuesday night over #6 Mountain Ridge.

The victory advances Dobson (22-8), the East Valley Region champs, to the conference semifinals on Feb. 28. Dobson will host Central Region runner-up Gilbert. Seventh-seeded Gilbert advanced defeating #2 seed Sandra Day O'Connor, 51-50, in their quarterfinal. Mountain Ridge, which tied for third place in the Desert Valley Region behind Pinnacle and O'Connor, closed its season 18-9.

Bribiescas harkened back to an invitational the Mustangs participated in the first week of December in California. Chee was sharp offensively in that invitational averaging 21 points a game. In the final game of that trio she connected for 25 points - going 6 for 6 behind the arc. Chee also passed the 1,000-point mark for her career with her performance in this one.

In Tuesday's game Chee was more prolific from three-point range than in that California game. Chee made four threes in the first quarter and two in the second period helping Dobson build a 30-20 hafltime lead. She made her last one in the third quarter. The Mustangs stubbornly clung to a mostly double-digit lead until the final minute. An additional highlight for Chee this night was passing the 1,000-point mark in her three-years thus far at Dobson.

Mountain Ridge never gave in despite playing from behind. The Mountain Lions, trailing 46-30 in the first minute of the fourth quarter, pulled within 52-47 with 29 seconds to play. The Mountain Lions rally was led by senior Miyah Verse, who scored eight of her team-high 21 points in the final quarter. Verse showcased an all-around offensive game. She made three threes and some impressive drives for points. Dobson closed out the win with two free throws from Aaliyah Garcia and one from Jensen in the final minute.
