Desert View over Douglas 12-1

Desert View opened up the regular season with a 12-1 victory over Douglas at home Tuesday night with the bats coming alive late in the game. With the scored tied 1-1 in the third inning, the Jaguars went ahead 2-1 in their half and then another run in the fourth made it 3-1.

The team tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with two outs, highlighted by a 2-run double from Diego Pinedo to score Elijah Espinosa and Marco Gutierrez. Up 6-1, the Jaguars ended the game early with six runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 12-1 run-rule victory. The team worked the game to a 10-1 lead with two outs and then Pinedo hit a 2-run shot to score Brandon Rodriguez and himself to end the game.

Pinedo went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, a home run and 5 RBI to lead Desert View. Gerardo Salazar added 3 RBI for the Jaguars and Rodriguez went 2 for 3. Emilio Lizarraga picked up 7 strikeouts from the mound and he only gave up one hit in six innings of work for the win. Benjamin Munguia picked up the single and RBI for Douglas. Emilio Martinez collected 5 strikeouts to start and Sergio Valenzuela and Aiden Rodriguez also saw pitching action for the Bulldogs.

Desert View will host Mica Mountain (1-0) on Wednesday night and Douglas will host Empire (0-1) on Friday.
