An incredible season and high school career have come to an end for Mountain Pointe senior Haley Jeske, but her playing days are not over.

On Feb. 3, Jeske signed with Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut, to play soccer for the Mariners. She is one of two girls on the team that will continue playing in college, joining senior Elon Stinson. It has been over three years since Mountain Pointe girls’ soccer had one of its own sign to a college.

“Having my mom and my younger siblings there to support me as well as my high school coach, counselor, principal and all my friends there, it really just felt like these people care about me,” said Jeske.

Jeske is coming off a record year after netting 11 goals and tallying 29 points, which ranked third in the 5A San Tan region in both categories. Her 11 goals were six more than the amount she had in her first three seasons combined. She helped lead her team to one of the best seasons in three years.

She is successful at holding the ball on the offensive side of the field and has a knack for scoring goals from anywhere. The leadership that Jeske brought to her team was noticed by many over the course of the season.

“She’s always had a very bold personality, where you definitely knew she was present,” said Mountain Pointe coach Christina Daigle.

As a freshman, Jeske stepped onto the field because soccer was an outlet. Her leadership was present but her goals of playing beyond high school were nonexistent.

“I don’t think she really thought that was an option for her until we really expressed that she has that passion and value that she could add to a collegiate program,” said Daigle.

The realization of her skillset quickly shifted Jeske’s mindset on the field during her junior year. She now looks to continue her success at the Division III level with the Mariners.

“Haley is that type of player that once she puts her mind to it, she’s going to do it,” said Daigle.

Jeske has already left her mark on her new college program by introducing one of her friends that plays club soccer to the coaching staff.

“She is already helping the program grow and get better and she hasn’t even stepped foot on the campus yet,” said Mitchell soccer coach Marc Davis. “I have absolutely no doubts that she’s going to fit in really well with the group. She’s warm, she’s likable with a good sense of humor and maturity.”

Outside of soccer, Jeske will be majoring in biomedical science and hopes to open her own cosmetic surgery clinic for those that were born with body deformities. She has left a legacy behind at Mountain Pointe and hopes to do the same at Mitchell College.

“She’s been a big part of this program for four years and it's going to be big shoes to fill next year, and we just hope the best for her,” said Daigle.
