Catalina Foothills improved to 8-0 in power-ranking games after the Falcons beat Mountain View Marana 11-1 Monday night at home. Catalina Foothills came in ranked No. 2 in the 5A Conference under returning head coach Lance Robertson, who started coaching the Falcons in 2007 before moving over to coach at Pusch Ridge and Ironwood Ridge.
No. 37 Mountain View (2-9) is competing under first-year head coach Jorge Valencia. Valencia played baseball at Pueblo, Pima, Troy State, and professionally in Mexico, before starting his own baseball glove business (Jovalt Gloves). The Mountain Lions had four wins from 2020 to 2022 and the program looks to be visibly improving under Valencia with six games left in the regular season but playing against one of the best teams in the state on their home field is a difficult task for any team.
In the win, Matt Adams went 2-2 with two RBI, Anthony Diaz had a triple and 3 RBI, Ganon Dwyer had a triple and 2 RBI, Logan Douglas had a triple, Branden Franz had an RBI and Cole Pinckney had a game-winning RBI in the bottom of the fifth. Diaz picked up the win and Grayson Alexander and Quinn Pinckney also saw action on the mound for the Falcons.
Silas Arvizu had a double for Mountain View and Jayden Lynch singled and scored for the Mountain Lions. Lynch, Arvizu and Brady Maher pitched in the game. Mountain View will travel to Cholla (4-5) on Thursday and Catalina Foothills will host Canyon del Oro (5-5) on Wednesday.
