The Arizona Interscholastic Association is bringing the fall and spring golf state championships back to the Valley with the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen agreeing to host the event for the next three years.

Previously hosted at Aguila and other courses in and around the metro area, this deal could not have been done without the help of the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. The City of Phoenix also helps with the running of the cross country state championships.

“We want to express how much we value our relationship with the Arizona Interscholastic Association,” said Greg Leicht, Director of Golf for the City of Phoenix. “The AIA has provided the community with many memorable championships. We are honored to be able to host the AIA state golf championships.”

The state golf championships move back to the Phoenix area after several successful years at the Omni Tucson National Resort. While holding the event in Tucson, the AIA has witnessed a huge growth of the sport and some of the lowest scores in championship history.

“It’s wonderful that we are able to bring our fall and spring golf championships back to Phoenix. There are top-notch courses all around Arizona, and the Aguila Golf Course is right up there with the best of them,” said AIA Executive Director David Hines. “The AIA has a history of showcasing several great championships at Aguila. We hope to have several more.”

The AIA will host the spring championship at the Omni Tucson National one more time May 8-9.
