Desert Vista's and Desert Ridge's baseball teams are jockeying for postseason position as the regular season winds down to its final couple days and games.

Desert Vista, currently 6A's #11 seed, kept its hopes alive to earn a spot in the top 8 at state on Friday night, edging host and #18 Desert Ridge, 3-1.

Senior pitcher Michael Caruso tossed a complete-game, two-hitter. Desert Vista improved to 19-7-1 overall and 6-3 in the Central Region. Desert Ridge is now 14-12 overall, 3-6 in region.

Caruso ran his record to 5-1. He walked three and struck seven. He allowed only a walk while pitching to the minimum 12 batters the first four innings. The walk was erased by a double play. The run he allowed was unearned in the fifth inning when he yielded both hits mixed in with an infield error.

Neither team had a player produce a multiple-hit game. Desert Vista's Jordan Garrison collected his team's lone RBI -- a seventh-inning double. Desert Ridge designated hitter Carsen Kane drove in the Jaguars run with a fifth-inning single.

The teams finish the regular season and their two-game series on Monday with a 4 p.m. first pitch at Desert Vista.
