Wear sun block, wiggle your toes, dig sand volleyball

Arizona just might have found a new popular high school sport.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association’s pilot girls’ sand volleyball season just wrapped up on Tuesday (April 17) with a 5-0 victory by Phoenix Xavier Prep over Fountain Hills at Victory Lane Sports Park in Glendale.

By most accounts, the five-team trial was very successful and hopefully will return next year with more teams.

It was a great job by Xavier, third-place Scottsdale Prep and the other three teams – Fountain Hills, Surprise Valley Vista and Phoenix Westwind Prep.

Sand volleyball is an exciting brand of competition and perfect for Arizona’s warm spring weather.

Now if we only had some surf to go with it.
