Your Valley Christian Trojans are heading into their bye week with a winning streak of 2 games. After a disappointing loss against Paradise Honors, the Trojans were out to prove that they are better than what they produced against the Panthers. Valley Christian went against a cross town rival, the Gilbert Christian Knights, for their homecoming game. The Trojans were able to come out victorious against a hungry Knights team, 42-27.  As an anticipated game circled on a lot of people’s calendars, the Knights traveled across town to try and make a statement win against the Trojans to try and go up in the rankings.

Senior Aidan Richards commented on the score of the game, “I think they scored a lot more points than we were expecting. We didn’t play up to our capabilities at times and the score shows that. We have got to be better at playing at the level we know we can play at.” Though the score was closer than what the VC team anticipated, the Trojans were happy to come away with a win after a loss to Paradise Honors the week before.

The following week, The Trojans headed up to West Central Phoenix to face the winless Bourgade Catholic Eagles. The Trojans played well, and the game was a great way for the team to head into their fall break and bye week, beating the Eagles by a score of 57-12. The Trojans knew that while this may not have been the most difficult game on their schedule, the team couldn’t have the mindset that they had already won but go into the game with purpose and execute the plays. 

Senior Gunnar Link said this about getting the younger guys some important experience. “It was a great game for some of the guys who play on Frosh to get some reps at the varsity level. Even though a good number of starters on the varsity level already are underclassmen, people got to make some plays. Also, the upperclassmen loved to see the future of Valley Christian take the field.”

The team will head up to Payson Friday afternoon as they play their final road game of the season against the 20th ranked Longhorns. The 3rd ranked Trojans look to extend their current winning streak to 3 games and extend their record to 8-1 overall.
