CAMP VERDE — Incoming transfer Rachel Roderick finished with 23 points, but her bucket with 4:19 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Cowboys a 31-30 lead may be a preview of good things to come for the Camp Verde girls basketball team.

Trailing 13-5 after the first quarter of play, Camp Verde (10-3, 0-0 3A North Central) fought back, including a 17-4 fourth-quarter spurt to give the hometown team a 40-34 win over Scottsdale Prep.

It is the fourth straight win for the Cowboys, which now advance to the Yvonne Johnson Memorial Shootout finals.

Page Oothoudt scored nine points for Camp Verde, eight of which came in the fourth quarter.

Sarah Hurley led the Spartans (10-5, 1-0 2A Metro) with 12 points on four 3-pointers in the loss.

Camp Verde is scheduled to face Parker in the tournament championship game after the Broncs beat Red Mesa 65-34.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
