Hamilton High thirdbaseman Mitch Nay signed with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday for a reported $1 million.
Nay, the 58th pick overall and a sandwich pick on June 4 in the 2012 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, signed along with 21 other Toronto draft picks. According to Baseball America's Jim Callis, Nay, the fourth player selected by Toronto this year, received $1 million to turn pro. Nay had signed a letter of intent to play this fall at ASU.
Nay, drafted for his power potential and strong arm, ripped 11 homers and drove in 31 runs this past season for Hamilton and was a three-year starter for coach Mike Woods and the Huskies. He projects as an outfielder or first baseman, according to Callis. Joining Nay in signing with Toronto was former Hamilton teammate Jorge Flores, a shortstop, who played the past two seasons at Central Arizona CC. Flores was a 19th round pick.
