Missy Franklin promotes U.S. Olympic Committee's Raise Our Flag campaign

By now, just about everyone in the sports community has heard of swimmer Missy Franklin.
Photo by Ray ChenFor those who haven't, tune into the London Olympics later this month when Franklin could become the first U.S. woman to compete in seven events at the same Olympiad.
The 17-year-old Franklin, who attends and competed for Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.), also is part of a new campaign by the U.S. Olympic Committee to tell the story of the Team Behind the Team.
Franklin is one of 12 Olympians and Paralympians featured in a short, animated video talking about how the athletes got their start. Franklin tells about how the support of her parents has been the key to her success.
The Team Behind the Team video series is part of larger effort by the U.S.O.C. to raise money in conjunction with its Raise Our Flag campaign. Since the U.S. teams receive no funding from the government, U.S. Olympic athletes rely solely on donations and corporate sponsors for support.
At the Raise Our Flag site, donors can buy a stitch for $12 through July 12, and that stitch goes to directly support Team USA athletes. Donors can share the stitch purchase through Facebook and Twitter, and the donation will be listed on the site's Donor Wall.
