One of Arizona’s best retired.
Chandler High School announced Monday afternoon that Rick Garretson stepped down after six years at the helm of the school’s football program. Garretson, one of the state’s top offensive minds, joined Chandler in 2010 to coach wide receivers and was eventually promoted to quarterback coach and passing game coordinator under current Arizona State running backs coach Shaun Aguano.
In his first two years at the helm, Garretson captured the first two Open Division championships with undefeated teams, continuing a five-year run of titles for Chandler.
It's the second longest state title win streak in state history.
“It has been a pleasure collaborating with a team so dedicated to seeing the football program thrive and succeed,” said Garretson in a statement Chandler High released Monday afternoon.

According to the statement, Garretson is looking forward to spending more time with family.
He also expressed his gratitude for the support, guidance and opportunities from his players past and present, coaching staff, teaching colleagues, and administration at Chandler High and the Chandler District. Garretson went 56-14 at Chandler, and his teams reached the playoffs every year, including four Open tournaments.
The former San Diego State receiver played and coached at Southern California power Servite High. At Chandler, he helped produce NFL quarterbacks Bryce Perkins and Brett Hundley.
No other high school in the state has produced as many NFL players (14) as Chandler. Per Chandler High, Garretson will continue teaching at the school through the end of the school year and help with the head coaching transition.
