16 down, one to go.
Hamilton excorcized a year's worth of frustration Wednesday night with a 24-0 victory over Mountain View in a 6A semifinal showdown at Hamilton's Jerry Loper field.

Freshman quarterback Marlie Phillips wore down the Toros stingy defense with the help of her All-American receiver Samaya Taylor-Jenkins, who had another spectacular performance that included two touchdowns and 11 receptions.
The No. 1 Huskies will face No. 7 Red Mountain Saturday night at Chandler High to decide the state title.

Red Mountain beat Marana Wednesday night to advance. Like Hamilton, the Mountain Lions lost in last year's semifinals.
"One more to go," Marlie Phillips said.
"Our goal is to win the championship. We had to treat this like another game, but (Mountain View) is the defending state champs, so this means a lot. But now we just have to focus on Red Mountain."

Hamilton beat Red Mountain 27-0 in a regular season matchup.
The Huskies have dominated opponents all season, and Wednesday night wasn't much different, except for avenging a semifinal loss a year ago to the defending state champion Toros.

"Last year on November 1st they knocked us out," Taylor-Jenkins said. "Winning this game meant a lot to us."
Hamilton scored early when Phillips found Aaliya from four yards out to cap a seven play drive and 7-0 lead.

Laela Johnson connected on a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter, and the Huskies took a 10-0 lead to halftime.
In the second half, Taylor-Jenkins took over, hauling in touchdown receptions of 26 and 4 yards, while the Husky defense continued to frustrate Mountain View quarterback Tierah Metcalf.

The fourth quarter was more of the same. Hamilton's offense continued to move, the Toros' offense continued to struggle for first downs.

"That's a great team with a great coach and one of the best receiver-quarterback duos in the country," Mountain View coach Jesus Arzaga said afterward.
Arzaga also announced he would not be coming back next season, as his teaching and varsity baseball duties have consumed his time.

"This has been an amazing ride.  The last two seasons have been so great for flag football."

The Toros finished 17-3.
