No. 1 Salpointe beat No. 3 Saguaro 7-2 Saturday afternoon at Mesa Mountain View to win the 12th state championship in program history, all under current head coach Wolfgang Weber. The Lancers passed Blue Ridge (11) for the most state championships in Arizona history, which means Weber has more titles then the rest of the teams as a coach also.

Salpointe standout Leo Gutierrez led the way this year with 63 goals which puts him at a state-record 173 for his career. He scored one goal against Saguaro later in the match but the Sabercats took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Dom Brewer in the second minute. Jose Gutierrez-Pena tied it up a minute later.

Salpointe went up 2-1 on a goal from Andrew Kisso in the 13th minute and that held up until Brewer scored again in the 35th to tie the match up at 2-2 at the half. Emiliano Castro put Salpointe up for good with a goal in the 42nd and another in the 43rd to give the Lancers a 4-2 lead.

Gutierrez made it 5-2 in the 68th, Marco Torres made it 6-2 in the 71st minute and Luis Garcia Leyva made it 7-2 Salpointe in the 77th on a PK.
